Backyard foodscape makeover

Raised bed garden

  • Build and install 9 garden beds per design 

    • 18” tall raised garden beds from locally-sourced cedar per design

    • Beds to be filled with premium raised bed garden soil and topped with compost

    • Middle bed to be a 3 tiered tower garden bed

    • Arbor entrance into garden

    • Drip irrigation installed including timer

      • Drip irrigation system to be connected to the nearest spigot on house and run as inconspicuously as possible to the garden

  • 2 custom built garden obelisks

    • To add vertical interest and a trellising for vining crops like cucumber, peas and pole beans

  • 1 8’ long built in cattle panel trellis on north side of garden 

  • Pathways in between and around garden beds to be mulched with wood chips and have flagstone steppers set into the wood chips.

 

Edible Landscape

  • Plant raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, flowers and herbs according to plan

    • Blackberries and raspberries to get post and wire trellis for clean trellising 

  • Pathways in between planted areas to be mulched with wood chip and have flagstone steppers set into the wood chips. 

  • Planted areas to be mulched with leaf mulch

  • Landscape beds to be sheet mulched with cardboard, compost and leaf mulch.  

  • 30+ perennial flowers and herbs to fill in the landscape 

  • 10 Strawberry plants 

  • 5 currants/gooseberry plants  + 10 native flowers along east strip of grass where blackberries are currently growing

 

Raised bed garden for school project

  • Build and install 6  garden beds per design 

    • raised garden beds built from locally-sourced cedar per design

      • Beds to have top trim of 2x6 for comfortable sitting

    • Beds to be filled with premium raised bed garden soil and topped with compost

    • Small solar lights to be set onto the sides of garden beds at 3’ spacing 

    • Rounded Arbor entrance into garden to be attached to the lowest 2 beds  

  • Installation of a cold frame garden lid on the indicated bed of the design. 

    • This lid will be removable during the summer growing season

  • Pathways in between and around garden beds to be mulched with crushed gravel.  Landscaping fabric to be used under gravel  to prevent grass or deter weeds from coming up 

  • Garden area to be edged using the reclaimed bricks (client would like to choose bricks. Custom Foodscaping’s brick supplier is Century Used Bricks. 
    Should the brick price that the client chooses be more expensive, this would necessitate a price increase)

    • See blue line in design for specifics of edging location

  • 6 4x4 posts to be set in concrete for string lights to be run between them

    • Eye hooks and pyramid post caps at the top of each light post

      • NOTE: post caps will not precisely match the eastern red cedar of the posts 

  • Trimming back of the magnolia  to accommodate the garden In Ground Plantings

  • Planting of 1 dwarf cherry tree in the beds with lily of the valley and irises

    • Thinning out and removal of the irises

  • 5 cut leaf cornflower plants to be planted in an in ground bed next to garage,, also leaving space for annuals to be planted 

  • New plantings to be mulched with compost
